Behavioral health treatment – which connects the dots between physical and mental well-being, and the habits and choices that impact those states – represents a vital part of neurological care.

The need for this service has soared even more because of COVID-19. As people continue to face unnatural social isolation and changes, rates of substance abuse, depression, anxiety, and other effects of distancing and lockdowns, keep rising. It’s a tough situation. Yet, successfully handling the pandemic, even while dealing with health conditions, is possible.

Neurology Associates’ newest provider, Sunitha Jose, now delivers behavioral health in our Mesa clinic. Sunitha is a psychiatric nurse practitioner who also has worked as a nurse for much of her career.

Sunitha’s experience gives her the tools to help people grappling with all kinds of behavioral health issues. Her background includes more than two decades in nursing, and five years in behavioral health and psychiatry. Sunitha has worked in different specialties, too, including orthopedics, bariatric, hemodialysis, telemetry, and medical-surgical.

Sunitha views herself as a “listening and comforting soul” who gives patients a supporting hand, and practical solutions, for managing emotions and mental health problems. Her aim, she says, is to assist patients in “discovering a renewed sense of vision, hope, and future possibilities in their struggles.”

“I enjoy myself by making my patients smile and by guiding them to lead a peaceful life,” she says.

Sunitha earned her post-master’s certification in Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner at Marysville University in St. Louis, Missouri. She received her Master of Science in nursing leadership from Grand Canyon University. Sunitha is a member of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association.

Outside of the office, Sunitha spends time with her family, and enjoys traveling, cooking, church activities, listening to spiritual and motivational talks, listening to music, and learning new things.

Sunitha is meeting with patients starting Feb. 15. She also accepts self-pay patients. We even offer telehealth video options during COVID-19. Call 480 800 4890 to schedule an appointment with Sunitha.

As we expand, we will offer counselingbehavioral healthcognitive rehabilitationnaturopathic medicine, and more, just like we do in our flagship Chandler facility. Dr. Rebecca JonesDr. C. Andrew Sales, and Dr. Megan Dale see patients in person and/or virtually over telehealth video (with some exceptions).

Neurology Associates Neuroscience Center is pleased to announce that it is opening its new Mesa clinic earlier than originally planned.

The facility, at 3308 N. Higley Road in northeast Mesa, opens to patients on Monday, June 1.

At first, Dr. Rebecca Jones will be the only neurologist at the Mesa location. She will see patients all day on Mondays and Tuesdays and in the mornings on Wednesdays.

MESA, ARIZ., May 29, 2020—Neurology Associates Neuroscience Center is pleased to welcome Dr. Rebecca Jones, Board-Certified Neurologist, back to the practice.

Jones worked at Neurology Associates in Chandler for two years prior to leaving in 2019 for a private clinic in Arkansas. She has returned to Arizona and will start seeing patients again on Monday, June 1. Jones will work out of Neurology Associates’ new location in northeast Mesa.

“I’m thrilled to be back,” Jones said. “I’ve missed Arizona and the patients and staff at Neurology Associates. And the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic makes it more important than ever to help people address their neurological health.”

While in Arkansas, Jones became well versed in evaluating neck and back pain. She will continue to offer that service at Neurology Associates, with the caveat that patients understand the clinic does not yet provide pain management – only assessments.

Jones earned her medical degree from the University of Utah School of Medicine. She completed her internship at the Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education and her residency at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale. Jones is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and the American Medical Association.

Jones attended medical school after nearly 20 years as a medical technologist and running her own business as a chocolatier. She chose neurology because it presents challenges that, when solved, change peoples’ lives. In her personal time, Jones enjoys woodworking and oil painting.

“Dr. Jones is a top-notch doctor and colleague,” said Ali Hajaig, partner and CEO at Neurology Associates. “When we had the opportunity to bring her back on board, we knew it was one we could not pass up. Dr. Jones is great to work with and patients love her.”

Jones is accepting new patients, and conducting appointments in person and over telehealth video. Jones initially will be available all day Mondays and Tuesdays and half days on Wednesdays.

No need to cancel your time with your provider

Neurology Associates is doing its part to reduce patients’ exposure to the COVID-19 coronavirus. Patients who request it may conduct their neurology, counseling and behavioral appointments with our neurologists, counselor and psychiatric nurse practitioner over audio-video. (Please note, depending on condition, some new patients may need to see their neurologist in-person for the first visit. Call 480 800 4890 for more information.)

We suggest patients who are more susceptible to the novel coronavirus, who are ill or think they may be ill, have family members who are ill, or who may be under quarantine, take advantage of this service if possible. Otherwise, you do not have to cancel your in-person appointment. The federal government has eased telehealth requirements as COVID-19 spreads.

The ability to meet with your doctor over telephone and video is most important for patients at risk of falling gravely ill from COVID-19. According to the Centers for Disease Control, that population includes people, regardless of age, with underlying and/or chronic health conditions, including high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, respiratory problems and more.

Neurology Associates strongly recommends susceptible patients, especially, take advantage of this service to protect yourself and your family. To date, there is no vaccine or herd immunity for COVID-19. The ability to use telemedicine during the COVID-19 outbreak also offers greater protection from the flu, which remains in full swing.

Please note that, unfortunately, we cannot take new telehealth neurology patients during this time. We continue to provide in-person appointments in a controlled environment.

Also, the cancelation policy for telehealth visits is the same as if you canceled an in-person visit. Canceling a telehealth visit with less than 24 hours’ notice will result in a $50 fee.

If you have questions and/or think a telehealth appointment may be the right option for you during COVID-19, call us at 480 800 4890. Many insurers are relaxing their telehealth requirements because of COVID-19. We work with a number of insurance companies so we cannot promise in this document that yours is covering telehealth, but we will check for you when you make or change your appointment. If we encounter any issues, we will call you.

Using telehealth video is simple. All you need is a smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer with video and audio capabilities, and an updated internet browser. Please be sure to enable your camera and audio settings to use this service.

Many people with neurological conditions, including Parkinson’s, epilepsy, dementia and multiple sclerosis, have reason to be concerned about the COVID-19 outbreak. That’s why it is critical to follow health officials' guidelines -- including social distancing, washing hands frequently, isolating or even quarantining at home -- and to take additional steps to ensure safety from this unprecedented virus. One of those extra steps entails self-education. As such, we have curated some information, below, from reliable sources about COVID-19 and specific neurological conditions.

Construction to Begin Soon

MESA, ARIZ., Feb. 20, 2020—In just a few months, Neurology Associates Neuroscience Center will serve patients from a brand-new location in Mesa.

Neurology Associates has shared space with another clinic in Mesa on Broadway Road for the past several years. The arrangement works well but a quickly growing patient roster means Neurology Associates must expand.

As a result, Neurology Associates soon will start construction on a state-of-the-art building at 3308 N. Higley Road, Mesa, 85215. The clinic will house 16 patient rooms, an MRI machine, and other diagnostic and treatment resources, and be staffed by neurologists, a psychiatric nurse practitioner, a naturopath and other experts dedicated to brain and spinal health.

“We give our patients a one-stop shop for their neurological care, and turning our Mesa practice into one that mirrors our flagship Chandler clinic is the next step in solidifying that approach,” said Ali Hajaig, founding partner and CEO of Neurology Associates.

Neurology Associates expects to open the 3308 N. Higley Road facility in late summer or early fall of 2020.

CHANDLER, ARIZ., Sept. 26, 2019—Parents and guardians seeking government services for children and adolescents with disabilities require a diagnosis from a board-licensed psychologist. Neurology Associates Neuroscience Center is pleased to announce that it offers pediatric neuropsychological evaluations that may help families secure the assistance they need.

Adults with minors in their care also may have concerns that do not involve state or federal aid, yet still need help understanding the child’s condition. For example, a child may have been in a car accident or suffered a football injury – some kind of trauma that seems to affect cognitive and neurological function. Pediatric neuropsychological evaluations allow doctors to pinpoint the nature and depth of any issues, and offer insight for treatment.

These assessments apply across a variety of possible conditions and disorders. Sports-related concussions, car accidents, learning disabilities and ADHD rank among the leading reasons why older children and adolescents may need specialized testing.

For younger kids and toddlers, key indicators include attention issues, learning disabilities, car accidents, prenatal insult (such as loss of oxygen, trauma at birth, premature birth), autism, epilepsy, seizure disorders, developmental delays, and traumatic brain injury.

“If your child’s pediatrician, pediatric neurologist, or developmental specialist has recommended a neuropsychological evaluation, we can help,” said Ali Hajaig, CEO and founding partner of Neurology Associates. “In addition, if you are seeking assistance for your child from government agencies such as the Division of Developmental Disabilities, a diagnosis from a pediatrician or school won’t suffice. Arizona requires a diagnosis from a licensed psychologist for families to qualify for services.”

Clinical psychologist Dr. Jonna Dunlap provides these in-depth assessments at Neurology Associates' Chandler clinic. Pediatric neuropsychological evaluations take about eight hours; the time includes a lunch break to give patients a chance to rest.

Neurology Associates offers neuropsychological evaluations for minors on a cash-only basis.

All Processes, Data Stay the Same for Patients, Providers

CHANDLER, ARIZ., Sept. 12, 2019—Neurology Associates has updated its name to fully reflect its focus and competencies.

Neurology Associates now holds a “doing business as” license as Neurology Associates Neuroscience Center.

The clinic previously went by Neurology Associates of the East Valley. However, as the facility expands its expertise, embracing all aspects of neurological care in ways that few other practices do, especially in Arizona, the necessity of a name change became clear.

“What’s most important about the enhancement is it has no impact on patients or providers, other than offering deeper insight about what we do,” said Ali Hajaig, CEO and founding partner of Neurology Associates Neuroscience Center. “Everything stays the same when it comes to referring physicians, and insurance coverage, claims and relationships.”

Neurology Associates continues to rebrand its signage and materials to display its new name. Those efforts should wrap up over the coming month.
